What is Intermittent Fasting (IF)?
Intermittent Fasting (IF) is an eating pattern that cycles between periods of fasting and eating. It does not prescribe which foods to eat, but rather when you eat. Common protocols include 16:8 (fast 16 hours, eat within an 8-hour window), 18:6, and 24-hour fasts. IF is associated with potential benefits including weight management and improved metabolic health.
How does the fasting timer work?
Tap "Start Fast" to begin your fasting window. IF Helper records the exact start time and shows a live countdown until your eating window opens. When the timer completes, you'll receive a notification. You can end the fast early at any time. The app supports 16:8, 18:6, 24-hour, and fully custom fasting windows — switchable anytime in Settings.
How are streaks calculated?
A streak counts consecutive days where you completed at least one fasting session that reached your target duration. Missing a day (no completed fast) breaks your streak and resets it to zero. Your all-time longest streak is saved permanently so you can always see your personal best.
Do I need an account to use IF Helper?
No. IF Helper requires no account and no sign-up. All your fasting data is stored locally on your device. You can start your first fast in under 30 seconds after installing the app.
Is my data backed up to the cloud?
Currently, all data is stored locally on your device only. There is no cloud sync in the current version. We recommend keeping the app installed to preserve your streak history. Cloud backup is planned for a future update.
How do I reset my data?
Go to Settings → Advanced → Reset All Data. This permanently deletes all sessions, streaks, achievements, and settings and cannot be undone. Uninstalling the app will also remove all local data.
Why did my streak reset?
A streak resets when a full calendar day passes without a completed fast. If you started a fast but did not reach your target duration, that day counts as missed. Check the History tab to review past sessions.
Can I change my fasting protocol?
Yes. Go to Settings → Fasting Protocol to switch between 16:8, 18:6, 24h, or set a custom duration. The change takes effect on your next fast and does not affect sessions already in progress or past history.
Is IF Helper free?
Yes. Core features — fasting timer, streak tracking, history, and achievements — are completely free with no subscription required.
